If you are thinking of entering your artwork, installation or performance into the 6th edition of Morocco’s Marrakech Biennale 2016, you have a couple of weeks left to apply
The call for MB6 OFF project entries, is currently open and runs until 31 May 2015.
The theme of the Marrakech Biennale 2016 is “TRACES,” drawing on the divergent and sometimes dissonant threads of rich cultural heritage found in Marrakech mixed with new threads of growth as a blossoming city of the arts and cutting edge design. They offer 3 guiding “semantic units”:
- Origins – signs, signatures & fingerprints that reveal historical/cultural roots
- Movements – the duality of space and time in actual movement through journeys, urban routes, visionary experiences, walks through the city
- Dialogue – transformative conversations between spaces, mediums, artists & viewers or even contexts
The Partner projects and OFF projects, will include 40-50 venues, all around the city of Marrakech.
An artistic committee under the direction of lead curator Reem Fadda, will meet in the beginning of June to decide on which applicants best fit the theme and spirit of Morocco’s biggest arts event. The complete list of venues and artists, chosen by the committee, will be presented by mid September 2015.
NOTE: The Marrakech Biennale 2016 will run from February 24th through May 8th (this is a change from previous info), with free admission to all venues and events throughout the 11 weeks, so that the Biennale is accessible to the widest possible Moroccan public and visiting foreigner audience.
If your creative work connects with the MB6 theme of TRACES in any way, you need to apply for the opportunity to have your work seen by the world in Marrakech in 2016. Hope to see you there!
And stay tuned for Green Olive Arts’ own Convergence Residency, a unique residency opportunity for artists to explore similar paths in Tetouan before traveling to Marrakech to attend the big event itself.
