Green Olive Arts, in partnership with Blanco Riad and the ALC Tetouan*, is excited to be hosting world percussionist Paula Jeanine Bennett for an evening of drumming with Tetouan’s local rhythm talent.

The program: During the 3-hour gathering of rhythm-makers in Blanco Riad’s cafe garden, Paula will lead us in creating a unique moment of music that will resound across the rooftops of Tetouan’s ancient walled city with story and emotion.
Instruments Invited: any kind of percussion or drum instrument, shaker, stick, block or bucket … and guitars too.

Who is Paula Jeanine Bennett?
Expressive and passionate, Paula Jeanine Bennett is a force of nature on percussion. Playing an array of international instruments including the frame drum, berimbau, surdo, conga and dumbek, she has a special relationship with all things rhythmic.
Often a collaborator in the field of dance, Paula is on the staff of both the Juilliard School and the Alvin Ailey School in New York City. She is a percussionist for the Table Of Silence project, frequent performers at Lincoln Center, in which she plays the Grand Casse bass drum.
In recent years, she has been using her creativity to help foster unity in the larger world. Paula has performed internationally on stages from Morocco to India to Java and at the opening ceremony of Pope Benedict XVI’s Summit for Peace in Assisi, Italy. She lives on the Brooklyn waterfront and can see the Statue of Liberty from her rooftop.**
