A 10 Dirham taxi ride from the center of town takes any adventurous hiker or plein air painter right up to the side of Mt. Bouanan, where the view of the sprawling city below only gets better the further up you go. Escape the busyiness of the city and walk among the pines and cactuses with sunlight on your back and birds all around. On any given day it is not unusual to come across a small herd of goats hoping playfully from rock to rock or cattle grazing on the flat grassy clearings. At every turn you’ll be amazed at the views both uphill and below.
The “City of the White Dove” spreads its wings from the Mediterranean on the east to the Tanger-ward mountains on the west. Like a million tiny sugar cubes mounded up the side of Mt. Dersa to the north and spilling into the River Martil in its valley, Tetouan is a beautiful city. We love living in the city of Tetouan, but Mt. Bouanan is a favorite gettaway for our family on weekends and I look forward to taking an easel and paints up there soon. Wouldn’t you like to come paint Bouanan with me?
