For the Spanish speaker in Tetouan, Morocco, the week of April 16 – 24, 2012 promises to be an exciting week of creative cultural treats! I wish my Spanish were better.
This year, the 28th Spanish Cultural Week will be kicked off at the Sania R’mel Stadium with a soccer match(here we say “kora” or “futbol”) on Saturday, and the rest of the week will have a full schedule of symposiums, lectures, concerts (from classical to hip-hop), art and photography exhibitions and theater. I am particularly excited about Thursday morning’s (11:30) puppet theater performance by the famous Titiriteros de Binefar at the Spanish School, Jacinto Benavente.
If my translation is accurate, the symposiums will focus on:
- a dialogue of culture and human rights in the new Moroccan constitution
- a conference on renewable energy resources in Morocco
- Spanish-Moroccan relations during the era of Spanish Protectorate in Morocco
- the secrets of DNA and the related issues in forensics, medicine, and ethics
