The Big Idea …

IS … to develop a large art international studio (for all kinds of creatives actually) with specialized spaces for various mediums and connections to art-making opportunities in the very cool country of Morocco. Throughout the history of artmaking, creatives have always benefited from taking their craft away from the comforts (and distractions) of home into new and culturally different places for a season of work. Today this is called an “art residency” and there are hundreds of them all over the globe in wonderful places. There are even a few in Morocco now (stay tuned for an upcoming post about them) … but there are none in the northern part of the country. Here in Tetouan, we are minutes away from beaches, mountains, rivers, farms, and the ancient walled city wth its labrynthine streets of markets and shops. THIS is a great place to come and make art, film, literature and friends. The big idea is to make this studio available both to the artists of Morocco and those of many other countries as well … so that ALL will benefit from rubbing shoulders in the same production space.
