Artisan workshop visits – Artisans of Tetouan

ARTISAN VISITS IN TETOUAN …

Artisans of Tetouan – artisan workshop visits

You are invited to have a personal visit with some of Tetouan’s finest artisans in their workshops. See them shape leather, wood, metals, wool, plaster, tile and other materials into beautifully handcrafted traditional objects. The visit includes the Royal Artisan School (Dar Sanaa) where children are learning from master artisans and these skills are passed on to the next generation. The handcrafts of Morocco are an ancient and endangered art. At Green Olive Arts, we want to honor these craftsmen and women and see them flourish in their work.

Maximum Participants: 6 – (bigger groups can be split into separate tours)

Languages: This outing can be led in either English, French, Spanish, Standard Arabic or Moroccan Arabic, and it includes translation for conversations with the artisans in their workshops.

Note: Please request booking at least 48hrs in advance. This visit is not available on Sundays. The Royal Artisan School is open and in session for this visit Monday through Friday. On Saturdays the workshops at the school will be included in the visit, but the students and master artisans won’t be present.  There may be some days that we are unable to guarantee that the school will be open, due to occasional changes in their schedule.

Testimonies:

Wonderful insight to the arts. I visited Tetouan with my mom and aunt and had a great time meeting the artisans and seeing them at work. If you’re interested in traditional crafts and craftsmanship, this is highly recommended. It’s also a good way to get your bearings and your way around the city.@marocmama

The best thing I did in Tetouan…highly recommended for anyone visiting Tetouan. — Ruthy M

I enjoyed the uniqueness of the tour. It felt like I wasn’t just a typical tourist, since I had access to these artisans’ workshops and was able to talk with them. Even better, our guides seemed to be friends with the artisans, so it didn’t feel like we were invading their space or unwelcome in any way. — Taylor

The tour gives a great insight into the Moroccan arts and crafts and actually lets you see how all these beautiful objects come into being. I only wish I could be an apprentice! — Sxb Traveler
